Sometimes in a relationship, we play a role in our breakups without knowing… It was couple of years ago when we were hit hard by a breakup; it was unexpected on my side or at least that is what i thought before getting back together with my ex. We had been together with my girlfriend for almost seven years and everything looked great … or so I thought. For five years we were living in one house both working in the same city. I got transferred at work to another city and her job could not allow her to transfer with me. This meant I had to make a more than ten hour round trip every weekend to visit my girlfriend. Occasionally, due to work, I only managed one trip a month. We talked on the phone whenever it was possible, but sometimes our different work schedules made it hard.

As I got promoted at work, my responsibilities at work increased as well forcing me to limit the trips to see my sweetheart. Of course she said she understood when I called to explain that I couldn’t make it until another time. She could not visit me because she was not very comfortable driving alone for several hours, especially to a big city like the one I was working at. It became more and more challenging as time went by to handle our relationship; I guess we were not used to long distance relationship. I used to think telling someone that you love them was sufficiently reassuring in a relationship, but I found out the hard way that it is not later after getting back together with my ex-girlfriend

Unexpectedly, one day my girlfriend called me at work and told me that she had an important message to tell me and that I should call her after work. When I got home, I called her hoping to hear any other news other than what I heard, guess what? Yes you guessed it right, she wanted to breakup with me. The news broke my heart and since it was on the phone, it was really hard to continue with the conversation. I tried calling her few minutes later after I was composed, but she told me she didn’t want to talk about it on the phone, but that I needed to visit her to discuss the matter.

To cut the long story short, we ended up breaking up and my initial attempts to stop the breakup and get back together was not fruitful. She requested for time alone (separation) to think about everything and that was a sign to me that getting back together with her was not going to be easy. Life was never the same for me both at work and home. I felt like there was a big hole left in my broken heart that no one else could fill. I knew I had to do something before it was too late; getting back together with her was fading quickly. My fears of losing her became real when she told me that someone else had constantly requested to go on a date with her. I knew she still had some feelings for me in her heart, otherwise she would not be telling me anything about other guys.
