How To Save A Relationship: Is It Neccessary?

Most people don’t see breakups coming, they just wake up one morning and they are told their relationship has ended. Breakup brings all sorts of problems to both partners and children if you have any. So are there any easy steps on how to save a relationship from breakup? Or is there a reason to stop breakup in the first place? Assuming you have valid reasons to save your relationship and you are sure you still love each other, here’s how to save a relationship.

First, you need to make up your mind whether you really want to save a relationship or not.  Whereas almost every relationship can be redeemed with hard work, both parties must make a decision that they want to make it work.  Because if one of you has given up and doesn’t want to revive the relationship, there is little that can be done.

Several people hang on in a relationship because it is convenient or stay in a marriage because of the children.  However if that is your reason, it is probably not enough.  How to save a relationship starts with a commitment by both parties that the relationship is worth saving.

The next step is to identify exactly where or what the problem in the relationship is.  One of the main problems in how to save a relationship is that people think that the symptoms of the problem are the problem itself.

For example, a lot of people think an affair is a problem that causes break ups.  But the truth is an affair is an indication of a deeper problem.  For example, a lack of true intimacy can lead a spouse to wander away.  Although most people see an affair as the problem, the underlying reason behind the affair was the lack of intimacy in the main relationship.  If you do not deal with this short of intimacy, you might be able to keep another affair from starting through the use of guilt, but another problem such as resorting to adult movies could come up because you haven’t dealt with the primary problem.

How To save A Relationship: When you begin to deal with core issues instead of symptoms.

As soon as you have recognized the main problems, you can start to share your thoughts.  This means both speaking out your own feelings and listening to your partner’s concerns.  It is important to hold your partner’s hand when you are talking about your problems as an indication that you would like to reconnect even when your emotions are so high.  When your partner speaks about anything that may be hurting, you need to remember that he or she is not doing it with an intention to hurt you.   In other words, look at everything with an open positive mind if you really want to save your relationship.

The moment you have detailed the problems in your relationship, come up with an action plan to resolve them.  Then, take solid steps on your action plan.  If you find out that you don’t spend time together like you used to, plan a date night every week.  Remember the relationship is for both of you, so give each other equal chances to come up with creative ways to spend an evening together each Friday of the week or whichever day that works for both of you.  If lack of adequate communication is the problem, commit to spending 30 minutes before bedtime just talking to one another.  And, make sure you do it genuinely, don’t wait to be reminded.

How to Save A RelationshipFinally, you ought to understand that saving a relationship is a continuing process.  It takes both of you, not one; otherwise you may take one step forward only to take two steps back.  There is going to be both laughter and tears going forward. Remember, a strong healthy relationship is built on care, appreciation, mutual respect, sacrifice, commitment and above all, LOVE. As you move forward always remember to be quick to apologize and slow to blame.
